Cancer of the ureter or renal pelvis - Treatment
Three different types of cancer of the ureter or renal pelvis are recognised in clinical practice:
- superficial upper urinary tract cancers, limited to the lining of the tract (mucosa), and non-aggressive (low risk)
- aggressive upper urinary tract cancers, which may already have spread into deeper layers of the tract wall (high risk)
- metastatic upper urinary tract cancers. In this case secondary tumours (metastases) can already be detected in other organs or lymph nodes.
