What is the prognosis for cancer of the penis?

The prognosis very much depends on the stage of the cancer. For localised cancers which have not spread to the lymph nodes, the chances of a complete cure are very good at around 80–90%.

If the cancer has spread to the lymph nodes, the prognosis is significantly worse, and is very much dependent on how many lymph nodes are affected and whether there are any secondary cancers elsewhere in the body.

For successful treatment, early diagnosis and treatment are therefore essential.
